Relay Publishing is looking for a creative, organized, and deadline-driven romance manuscript ghostwriter, whose high-level writing skills and experience in SEAL & military sub genre produce an emotionally-charged novel that juggles romance and suspense to deliver an exciting and sexy read.
Our ideal candidate will work with the Relay Publishing outline team to take our outline and turn it into a thoughtful, creative and dramatic manuscript. Our typical SEAL romance novel is about 45-60k words in length, written in third person POV, past-tense. Our writing process requires a good relationship and back and forth between our writer and editor. We want you to use our team to set the basis for your character and story line, and then build it into a page turning novel.
Necessary Skills & Experience
Extensive experience writing within the romance genre and specific experience of the SEAL/ Military romance sub genre. You know exactly what readers of this genre want.
Ability to work collaboratively with others, including the outline team and editors, using a detailed outline as the basis for your manuscript.
Particularly looking for those with experience writing storylines that juggle both suspense and romance plots simultaneously—no easy feat! The ability to write hyper-masculine alpha males, as well as witty banter and comradery common in military groups, where tough love is dished out freely, is a big plus.
Comfortable with military heroes, action and intimate scenes.
High level writing experience. We are looking for the best of the best, with a drive to see the story come to life.
Ability to use characters and story arcs to build tension. Strong knowledge of pacing and structure is required.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Time management and prioritization.
- Technologically savvy in order to work with our project management software and Word!
A deep knowledge of the genre is required—viable candidates should already have written widely in the SEAL romance genres and be familiar with the bestsellers (Susan Stoker, Cora Seton, Lynne St.James & Brittney Sahin). You’re a talented and experienced writer, with the ability to develop relatable and engrossing characters who instant engage a romance reader. Your style is dramatic, character-focused, and emotionally driven. You’re able to juggle both the suspense plot and the romance plot simultaneously, keeping tension high throughout. A firefight in an abandoned warehouse is as easy to write as a love scene. Your stories leave readers believing in the power of love and emotionally satisfied by your characters overcoming all obstacles.
You enjoy a challenge and using your imagination and problem-solving skills to develop a detailed outline into a fully fledged story. You are a person who loves the writing process and high level collaborative creation.
