Relay Publishing is looking for a creative, organized, and deadline-driven Outline Editor, who will provide the feedback and guidance to an engaging Billionaire Romance novel that keeps an audience coming back for more! 


Job Outline

Our ideal candidate will work within the Relay Publishing’s outline template, collaborating with a writer to create a detailed romance outline. They’ll edit from a “big picture” perspective, considering aspects such as character set-up, structure, pacing and ensuring it all falls within genre expectations.  Our goal is to have a complete blueprint for a page-turning story to give to our manuscript writer—and you will help to create it. This process requires extensive back and forth communication between our writers and editors, as well as input from our senior editor.


Necessary Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience within the romance genre and specific experience and knowledge in the Billionaire romance sub-genre. You should be familiar with Sylvia Day, Samantha Young, Katy Evans, Melody Anne, Nicole Snow, Vi Keeland and Meghan Quinn.
  • A love for working collaboratively with writers and other editors.
  • Particularly looking for those with experience editing storylines in the Billionaire world, luxurious and royal settings, with strong-willed, unflappable heroines who challenge the strong, wealthy, autocratic and incredibly powerful billionaire heroes.
  • Solid outline editing experience, with a passion for characters, plot, structure and romance. Story geeks are preferable!
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

About You

A deep knowledge of the genre is required—viable candidates should already have edited widely in the Billionaire romance genres and be familiar with the bestsellers (Sylvia Day, Samantha Young, Katy Evans, Melody Anne, Nicole Snow, Vi Keeland and Meghan Quinn). You’re a talented and experienced editor, with the ability to help a writer to create relatable and engrossing characters who instantly engage a romance reader, as well as an intriguing external plot line.

Your editing style is warm, character-focused and driven by experience. You’re able to juggle both the external plot and the romance plot simultaneously, keeping tension high throughout. The books you’ve edited previously leave readers believing in the power of love and emotionally satisfied by your characters overcoming all obstacles.

We want to work with editors who are creative, passionate, and conscientious on an ongoing basis. As a virtual office, communication is key—we like to work with individuals who can meet deadlines and communicate clearly and efficiently to keep project coordinators up to date with your progress.
