Book Packaging You Say?
That’s right, we’re a book publishing / packaging company. That means we handle the book publishing process from beginning to end. We take great story ideas and collaborate with talented writers to bring them to life. These story ideas and concepts are created by our in-house team, which are then fleshed out into detailed character profiles and outlines (30-40 pages).
We then work closely with one of our writers to bring these outlines to life. The focus throughout is on quality, and the writer works closely with an editor to ensure the reader will be blown away by both the story and the prose. Depending on the word count, the process from idea creation to finished product is 2-4 months.
Then the book enters the marketing phase where the cover and blurb are optimized to sell, and various advertisements are set up to promote the book. Every book is made with the target of hitting the bestseller list.
Our ideal candidate will review both outlines and manuscripts from a story level—digging into character set up, arcs, plot, structure, pacing and ensuring it all falls within genre expectations. This process requires back and forth communication from our writers and editor as well as input from our concept creator. You will be expected to edit the manuscript with a view to line edits, including story flow, language choice, pacing etc.—this is a key requirement, if you’re not able to juggle the two please do not apply. Legal knowledge, particularly criminal law, will also be valued highly.
Necessary Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience within the genre of Legal Thrillers, specific knowledge of Criminal Law. You should be familiar with authors such as John Grisham, Michael Connelly and Scott Pratt.
- Work collaboratively with writers to build a comprehensive outline to a complex fantasy story in a fully developed and absorbing medieval fantasy world.
- Solid editing experience, with a passion for plot, structure and pacing
- Ability to evaluate characters and story arcs to build drama for our readers.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Time management and prioritization
- Technologically savvy
A deep knowledge of the genre is required—viable candidates should already have written, edited or read widely in the legal thriller genre. You need to have high familiarity with the genre, know how to plot and structure a story, and have a good mind for what readers in this genre want. You will enjoy a challenge and using your problem-solving skills to define what is next in the story. You are a person who enjoys the brainstorming process and high level collaborative creation.
