Relay Publishing is looking for an extremely detailed and deadline driven Vellum Book Formatter to ensure our high turnover of fiction titles are optimized and problem free for publishing.

About Relay Publishing

Relay Publishing is a multi-genre fiction publishing company running since 2013. We have a catalogue of over 875 books in both English, German and French, with our focus being on romance, young adult fantasy, science fiction, thrillers and post-apocalyptic.

After seven years working with publishing freelancers, we like to think we know what makes a creative, fun, and collaborative online environment. What We Do

We are a book publishing and packaging company. We develop great story ideas and collaborate with talented writers and editors to bring them to life. Story ideas and concepts are created by our in-house team, which are then fleshed out into detailed character profiles and outlines. The outlines are then given to our manuscript team – comprised of a ghostwriter and editor. The focus throughout is on exceptional storytelling, and the writer works closely with an editor to ensure the reader will be blown away by both the story and the prose. Depending on word count, the process from concept creation through to finished novel can range from four to twelve months.

Then the book enters the marketing phase where the cover and blurb are optimized to sell, and various advertisements are set up to promote the book. Every book is made with the target of hitting the bestseller list.


Job Outline

We want to work with people who are creative, passionate, and conscientious on an ongoing basis. As a virtual office, communication is key, we like to work with individuals who can meet deadlines and communicate clearly and efficiently to keep project coordinators up to date with your progress.

Our Formatter will be responsible for our finished final product!  You will be putting together the entire book from cover page to sneak peeks, including cover art, fully formatted vellum and pdf files, blurbs and author photos and bios.  Our ideal candidate is adept with both photo and document formats and enjoys seeing a perfect final product.  You will be fluent in English, working part-time remotely with only your deliverables and occasional meetings (in person or over Skype) to ensure that we are on track.

Each book takes three days to format. Day 1 – you will be provided with the files for formatting. Day 2 – you submit the formatted files and they are reviewed by our team and sent back with any revisions. Day 3 – final version delivered for publication.


Job Duties

  • Collate documentation and use Vellum to turn it in to a book for publishing
  • Upload final product into our project management software in a timely and efficient manner
  • Readily available to answer questions / or to talk through elements of formatting
  • Ensure attention to detail, resulting in a consistent format
  • Be available to consistently meet deadlines
  • Have Skype or phone meetings with the format review team as required

Necessary Skills & Experience

  • Well Versed in Vellum Formatting Software to eBooks and paperbacks for publication
