Relay Publishing is a multi-genre fiction publishing company running since 2013. We have a catalogue of over 875 books in both English, German and French, with our focus being on romance, young adult fantasy, science fiction, thrillers and post-apocalyptic.

What We Do
We are a book publishing and packaging company. We develop great story ideas and collaborate with talented writers and editors to bring them to life. Story ideas and concepts are created by our in-house team, which are then fleshed out into detailed character profiles and outlines. The outlines are then given to our manuscript team – comprised of a ghostwriter and editor. The focus throughout is on exceptional storytelling, and the writer works closely with an editor to ensure the reader will be blown away by both the story and the prose. Depending on word count, the process from concept creation through to finished novel can range from four to twelve months.
Then the book enters the marketing phase where the cover and blurb are optimized to sell, and various advertisements are set up to promote the book. Every book is made with the target of hitting the bestseller list.
We want to work with people who are creative, passionate, and conscientious on an ongoing basis. As a virtual office, communication is key, we like to work with individuals who can meet deadlines and communicate clearly and efficiently to keep project coordinators up to date with your progress.
Our ideal candidate for the translator role will receive an English manuscript (ranging from 30k-80k words) and a blurb for the title. Each translated manuscript and blurb is then reviewed by a proofreader to ensure the quality of work that Relay expects. The final delivered manuscript will need to read fluidly and naturally to a native speaker – we are not looking for a literal translation. Please do not apply if you rely on AI software for your translations.
Necessary Skills & Experience
- Proven experience of translating/ proofreading fiction stories from English to Standard German
- Ideally experience translating/ proofreading in the romance and/ or fantasy fiction genres
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of the German translation team to produce a final manuscript free from grammatical and spelling errors
- Ability to translate 2000-4000 words per day
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Time management and prioritization.
- Technologically savvy in order to work with our project management software and Word!
Proven experience is required – you’ll have worked as an English to German translator or proofreader on fiction stories between 30k-80k in length. You’ll have a good understanding of how to translate into a fluid and readable story for a German audience. You’ll be reliable and able to deliver quality work to a set deadline and you’ll be able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
