Relay Publishing is looking for a highly skilled HR Consultant to help us build and manage our HR strategy. Relay’s new part-time HR Consultant role will be flexible, business-oriented, hard-working, proactive and positive. This role’s main goal is to efficiently and effectively build our internal processes and systems so that we can continue to facilitate and cultivate a friendly, supportive, remote-work environment for both our core team and our freelancers at all times. We are looking for someone who is flexible in their approach, pragmatic, and self-motivated. This is a great opportunity for someone with solid HR generalist experience from a creative environment.


Job Outline

You will be responsible for all HR aspects of Relay Publishing. We want to work with people who are creative, passionate, and conscientious on an ongoing basis. As a virtual office, communication is key—we like to work with individuals who can meet deadlines and communicate clearly and efficiently to keep the team up to date with their progress.

You will need a strategic, results-oriented focus to help us drive the business forward. This position requires a conscientious person to grow the company and the position into what they want. We are all about growing together.



Preferred minimum of 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified:

  • Proven HR experience, ideally at HR Manager level
  • CIPD or equivalent qualification highly desirable
  • A background in working in a creative environment and an interest in book publishing
  • Knowledge of procedures, and regulations pertaining to the human resources processes
  • Experience working in an online, remote, virtual office
  • UK employment regulations

Job Duties

  • Build, deliver and manage the HR strategy for our core team and our freelancers
  • Provide HR advice and guidance to managers and staff on all employee / contractor relations, adhering to company policies and procedures and employment law.
  • Support the company’s ambitions to have a culturally diverse workforce through proposing appropriate policies, procedures and training
  • Take responsibility for the full employee engagement/life cycle
  • Manage staff development frameworks and training budgets
  • Work together with the Recruiter to build our creative team further
  • Utilise Teamwork and Airtable to effectively manage this position
