WHY EDIT FOR RELAY PUBLISHING?
You are one of the best in the industry
Highly experienced within your respective genres, you are unashamedly a story-geek and know exactly what goes into an un-put-down-able book.
You love to roll up your sleeves and dig in on editing a book. You have an eye for detail and you aren’t afraid to do the hard edits needed to take a story from good to great.
You enjoy working with experienced writers who are eager for constructive criticism and to grow their craft. You want to work with a consistent team who creates engaging stories.
Editing is your passion, not searching for your next project, or managing the deadlines of creative talent. You want to jump into a story, not worry about when and how it’s going to end up on your desk.
We’re searching for talented developmental and line editors—must be able to do both—as well as eagle-eyed proofreaders.
How It WOrks
Our creative process is truly a collaboration and as a Relay editor your input will significantly shape the final story.
Once assigned to a project, you’ll either be giving feedback on an outline to develop the characters, plot and structure of a story, or digging into a manuscript to revise and enhance the story a writer has fleshed out.
You’ll work one-on-one with talented writers to support, critique and fine tune the story into something un-put-down-able!
If Relay and you decide it’s good fit, this can mean immediate work or the option of lining up work for the future so feel free to apply even if you currently have all the work you can take on!

“This project was a blast to work on from start to finish.”
“I really enjoy the collaborative creation process at Relay – it’s so useful to have the different levels of logic and multiple perspectives all working together to tell fun and interesting stories.”
“I love working with this writer. She’s come a long way since she started writing for Relay, and it’s a delight to see that development.”
“I find Relay a pleasure to work for and so so organised, which makes life easier.”
“It’s great that Relay has up-to-date manuals and instructions for so many stages of their process. I love that level of investment. It’s very good to be able to feed back after a project. It’s great for a company / employer to value employee / freelancer input and treat all those involved as bringing somethign valuable to the project.”
“As a Relay Editor, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a team in seeing projects through from beginning to end—engaging in fleshing out concepts and characters, then full outlines, and even remaining with a project straight through until it’s ready for copy-editing. This has been incredibly satisfying, and I always enjoy the work since Relay pairs professionals with projects that are right in line with their talents and interests.”

“I want to tell you that you’ve got a good thing going (which I’m sure you already know). I came to Relay Publishing after editing for several difficult authors in a row, and I had almost forgotten how it felt to work together to make a stronger book. But Relay Publishing has reminded me why I have so enjoyed editing fiction.”
